Rogelio De La Vega in “Jane The Virgin”
In The CW’s Golden Globe-nominated series “Jane The Virgin,” Jaime Camil plays Rogelio, a famous telenovela actor, who discovers from his ex-girlfriend Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) that he is the father of Jane (Gina Rodriguez), and he has become an integral part of the family.
Golden Globe Award, Critics’ Choice Award, Teen Choice Award and Imagen Award winner Jaime Camil, named by Vanity Fair as one of the Best New TV Characters of 2014, plays “the scene-stealing comedic bright spot,” Rogelio de la Vega, the supremely vain, but totally well-meaning, famous telenovela star.
Camil began his career as a singer performing alongside Cuban icons Amaury Gutierrez and Pancho Cespedes before going on to star in the mega hit telenovela “La Fea Más Bella” in his native Mexico. He has starred in a multitude of award-winning films including “Pulling Strings,” “200 Cartas” (alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda), and “7 Dias” (which earned him the “Best Supporting Actor” honors from the Premios ACE and the Mexican Cinema Journalists respectively).
His career continued to skyrocket following star turns in the gender-bending comedy “Por Ella Soy Eva” and the fish-out-of-water romp “Que Pobres Tan Ricos.” He has recorded four platinum selling albums and has led many musicals in Mexico City including “West Side Story,” “Hook,” “Aladdin,” “El Diluvio Que Viene,” and more. In 2005 he led the Broadway-bound musical “The Mambo Kings.”
In the summer of 2016, Camil headlined a two month run on Broadway starring as Billy Flynn in America’s longest-running hit musical “Chicago.” He also wrapped a successful 3-night only summer production of “MAMMA MIA!” at the Hollywood Bowl playing the role of Sam Carmichael opposite Jennifer Nettles as Donna. Camil was also the voice of Papá in Disney/Pixar’s “Coco.”
Camil recently wrapped his latest film, Pantelion’s “My Boyfriends’s Meds,” which he also executive produced under his production banner, ECABA. The film will open on Labor Day of 2019 and the cast includes: Brooke Shields, Jason Alexander and Brian Baumgartner among many other great actors. Camil will also make a guest appearance in The CW’s, “Charmed.”
Camil, along with his wife and two children, currently resides in Los Angeles.
