CBS STUDIOS INTERNATIONAL AND CHANNEL 4 ANNOUNCE NEW, EXPANDED LICENSING AGREEMENT FOR CBS PROGRAMMING IN THE U.K.
Agreement Includes New Series “Charmed” and “Happy Together,”
Additional Seasons of “The Good Fight” and Contemporary and Classic Library Content
AMSTERDAM and LONDON – Sept. 27, 2018 – CBS Studios International and the U.K.’s Channel 4 have today announced an exclusive, multi-year licensing agreement for titles from CBS’ new fall slate, along with extending the rights to further seasons of the CBS All Access drama THE GOOD FIGHT and a roster of contemporary and classic television series.
Later this year, U.K. audiences will have the opportunity to see the much anticipated reimagining of the fantasy drama CHARMED on E4, which will be as fierce and funny as the original, showcasing the power of sisterhood.
Also included in the agreement is HAPPY TOGETHER, starring Damon Wayans Jr. in a comedy about a 30-something happily married couple who begin to reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when a young pop star moves in with them. Ben Winston and Harry Styles will executive produce the series, which is very loosely inspired by the time Harry lived in Ben’s attic during the height of One Direction’s success. (However, that’s where the reality ends. The show is not based on real life experiences or characters.) HAPPY TOGETHER will also premiere on E4.
The deal also extends Channel 4’s rights to future seasons of THE GOOD FIGHT, which will return to More4 and has been hugely successful for the broadcaster. The first season was the #2 series on More4 in 2017, while the second season is the #1 series so far this year.
In addition, the new agreement will see Channel 4 licensing some of television’s most iconic series from CBS’ extensive library, including “Cheers,” which will play on Channel 4; “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” for 4Music; “90210,” which will be available exclusively on All 4; and “Rules of Engagement” coming to E4. These series join “Frasier,” “Everybody Loves Raymond” and other hit CBS library programming on Channel 4.
“Channel 4 has been a long-time partner of ours, and it’s terrific that we’ve expanded on our relationship to include some of the most talked about U.S. series from the new fall slate,” said Stephen Tague, Executive Vice President, Client Relations, EMEA, for CBS Studios International. “With a rapidly changing media landscape, U.K. broadcasters are demanding programming with quality and consistency, with CBS delivering this year after year.”
CHARMED is from CBS Television Studios in association with Propagate Content, with executive producers Jennie Snyder Urman, Jessica O’Toole & Amy Rardin, Ben Silverman, Brad Silberling, Howard Owens and Carter Covington. CHARMED is distributed internationally by CBS Studios International.
HAPPY TOGETHER is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Fulwell 73 and 3 Arts. Austen Earl, Tim McAuliffe, Ben Winston, Harry Styles, Michael Rotenberg and Jonathan Berry serve as executive producers. HAPPY TOGETHER is distributed internationally by CBS Studios International.
THE GOOD FIGHT is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions. Robert and Michelle King, Ridley Scott, Brooke Kennedy, David Zucker and Liz Glotzer serve as executive producers. THE GOOD FIGHT is distributed internationally by CBS Studios International.
