GameSpot’s Annual List Highlights the Games that Have

Made the Most Significant Contributions to the Industry

SAN FRANCISCO – Dec. 19, 2018 – GameSpot, the #1 gaming news and information site, announced today that “Red Dead Redemption 2,” developed by Rockstar, has been named “Game of the Year” for 2018. This marks GameSpot’s 22nd annual “Game of the Year” selection, which recognizes the top video games for consoles and PC. “Red Dead Redemption 2” joins an elite list of titles chosen for their exceptional quality and innovations that push the games industry to evolve technically and creatively.

Other nominees this year were critically acclaimed titles like Sony’s “God of War” and Capcom’s “Monster Hunter World.” A full list of nominees is included below.

It was a phenomenal year for games, but of the more than 200 titles we reviewed this year, ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ stands out from the competition for its technical artistry and captivating storytelling,” said GameSpot editor-in-chief Randolph Ramsay. “Our annual ‘Game of the Year’ list highlights the titles that are both compelling to play and also move the industry forward. These are the games that we believe everyone should play and experience.”

For GameSpot’s “Game of the Year” all games published between December 2017 and November 2018 for PC or major consoles are eligible. GameSpot’s top 10 nominees for the ultimate title were (in order of release date):
